fg-taxon #24 (Cryptomeigenia sp.)
This taxon is a fairly common, brown and quite boring-looking “species” but it seems quite distinctive, nonetheless. I have found it in good numbers and the basic morphology seems to be quite stable.
EDIT (Monty Wood 26/9/2010): These are all Cryptomeigenia sp. – a genus that often comes to light traps.

Hi Juan Manuel, I see the problem … yes this specimen doesn’t have median discals on tergite 3, which makes it fail in Monty Wood’s Central American key. All I can say is that Monty thought that this was Cryptomeigenia when he visited me in 2010 but perhaps he was thinking “sensu lato” and perhaps the key doesn’t work so well outside Costa Rica? I know that when you reach a result in his key you need to treat it quite broadly … if you get to “Neomintho” then you really need to read “close to Neomintho” because there are other genera (present in Central & South America) that go there and that are not listed elsewhere in his key – like Cryptocladocera (Pelecotheca). 🙂
