April – June 2025 ukiyo-e delivery

This was another lovely selection of prints from Japan.

I’d been hunting for these 2 prints from the play “Okige no kumo harau Asagochi” for years when I spotted that someone was auctioning off single orphaned pages from both prints. I’d much rather have the whole triptych but I couldn’t pass up the chance to get at least a page from each of them. The last page ticked my other collecting theme – people with modern umbrellas.

EDIT: I found the triptych that matches the last orphaned page in my collection: 

This is a lovely diptych by Chikayoshi – it was originally a trick picture but the stuck-on pieces were missing. Here is a nice article on the print.

This delivery was actually very “Okige no kumo harau Asagochi” heavy because it included 3 more prints from this play.
